We need girl slash RPers, badly! We only have one girl. [17 Aug 2012|04:23pm]

rawrwarped

We have over thirty characters in our Warped Tour & Taste of Chaos based slash RP, with mpreg, femmeslash, and all celebrities welcome!

Check out our Character List, we have plenty of openings and even original character muses are welcome. We're currently in the off tour season with our characters gearing up for our optional International Taste of Chaos tour this fall and our US Taste of Chaos tour next year so there's plenty of time to develop storylines and friendships before they hit the road.

This is definitely not your typical Warped Tour.

One of the categories of creation accepted at the challenge is meta, which has a minimum of 2,500 words and writers are welcome to write multiple pieces to achieve the minimum, and any topic related to women in any sense (i.e., can be about a specific character/fandom/universe or larger scope meta focus such as female characters in fandom, etc.) is fair game.

Rec request [13 Dec 2010|11:03am]

xtricks
Hi –

It’s unlikely that anyone here knows me but I’m (trying) to create a comm over on DW that is focused on increasing awareness of existing diversity in fandom: [community profile] fandom_idic . The first post I generated was on existing femslash communities, websites and so on (that I could find).

I’d like to put up a second post that is a small list of stories from a variety of fandoms and a variety of styles to give people who are interested a place to start in terms of authors/fandoms etc. I, however, am not at all familiar with the femslash fandom, notable authors or classic stories so I’m hoping to get some help on that front. Any fandoms are welcome (though active ones are preferred) as are any story types (explicit, plotty, humor, cracky, dark, etc).

If a few of you would be willing to recommend/suggest two or three stories that you think are fun/hot/interesting/plotty or whatever it is that makes them cool for you, I’d love a chance to include them. Obviously, I’d include the reccer’s name/info (if desired) with any stories I fold into the general post.

Thanks,
XT

I can't decide if this is meta or a rant... [19 Nov 2010|12:03am]

[ mood | amused ]

I've been seeing this... I don't know if I'd call it a trend, but perhaps it is one? But, basically, there's been comments in fandom_secrets and other places that generally boil down to:

No one writes the femslash I want to read.

Which is all well and good, but--look. What does that even mean?
This got longer than I expected, I'm not sure I'd call it meta, thoughCollapse )

pimping femslash ponies [06 Nov 2010|12:14am]

cheriestar
I do realize that i'm probably dancing on most of the peoples here's childhoods, but the new "My little Pony" series inspired me to make a community...

femmeponies

Yup. Your seeing right. A Femslash My Little Pony community. While I had the new series in mind when I created the comm, it is open to all generations of My Little Pony.

Hope to see some of you there.

New Minific/Drabble community! [06 Sep 2010|04:28am]

 minific_hell !
I've created Minific_Hell to basically....indulge my desires for music themed/Femslash friendly fic challenges- Ranging from the ridiculously easy to absurdly difficult.

The first round of prompts is Rolling Stone Magazines, Top 100 Beatles songs.

This community is not femslash exclusive, yet  i believe it will be fem-slash heavy.

So if you enjoy Femslash and the Fab-Four - Check out the challenge post on minific_hell

pimping new land comm [28 Aug 2010|08:31pm]

individual_68
So I don't normally pimp things unless I really believe in them, and think they are truely awesome, and this is one of those times.

I know I have a lot of femslash fans on my flist, so go and have a look at this:

femslash_land femslash_land femslash_land

For those who are members of landcomms already and are sick of having to write het/ambiguous fic in order to win challenges, we need no longer conform! (lol)

And for those of you who aren't on any landcomms, this is a team challenge community where individuals compete in graphics and fic challenges, as well as do fun games and puzzles, to earn points for their team. It's a great place to meet new people, as well as participate in things you wouldn't normally do (I hated graphics, but have learnt I'm not half bad at them)

This landcomm is for all femslash tv and movie pairings, so come along, apply and join in the fun!

so go and apply here

*Advert* Community: yuri_challenge [02 Aug 2010|11:03am]

piraskel
Here to announce the start of a new round! Come help us brainstorm some prompts!

Hello, everyone!

I'm writing to invite everyone in this community to yuri_challenge, a yuri/femslash fanfic and fanart challenge community... though you may have heard about us before. Possibly even in this community :D

The bonus of participating this challenge will be that you could quite possibly end up crossposting your submission to the community you're reading in now! Spreading the love and adding to fandom at the same time is a great combo~

Stories and art are based on a prompt for each challenge, and the theme for this Round is "The Musical!" Basically, you will be providing a fandom, pairing, lyric or two, as well as an optional youtube link, and then it will show up on a biiiiig claims post for people to pick to write or draw from~

All fandoms are welcome (TV/anime/books/etc), however the community does not permit RPF/RPS as we're about the characters, not the people playing them. Sorry!

Prompt submissions for this Round have already started over here, so be sure to join the community, and have some earphones on and those pens ready!

Thanks for your time in reading. :D

Gathering Information for a Panel [31 May 2010|01:29pm]

mind_the_tardis
[ mood | hopeful ]

I hope this is appropriate—if not, just give me the word.

I'm going to be attending the slash con con_txt very soon, and I've volunteered to co-mod for a panel on female characters in current fandom. This being a slash con, the emphasis will likely be on same-sex or multiple-partners shipping (as well as who popular female characters are right now, and what people think of them), so I need to know more about femslash ships! I'm largely a male-slasher (though almost exclusively in one fandom, Doctor Who, Doctor/Master), and my flist tends towards male-slash and multishipping, so I'm not as aware as I'd like to be of what current femslash pairings are popular. I need to fix that, quickly.

Here's the description of the panel:

Fandom Suddenly Loves the Ladies! [Meta]
Well, okay, not *suddenly*. But there does seem to be a recent upward
trend in the number of female characters that fans really love. White
Collar and Leverage both have an OT3 with a female character as a
dominant focus of fan activity, Gwen and Morgana get a lot of
attention in Merlin fandom, and female characters on Psych and
Southland get a lot of love from fans, too. What is it about these
characters that is generating this level of fannish attention? Or is
it fandom that has changed? What other awesome women are we really
loving right now? Squee and meta welcome!

Head over here to give me the scoop on your ship/fandom.

Also, hello! I'm starting to get interested in femslash, and will hopefully be around in femslash communities—I'm getting tired of just writing men, when I keep wanting more female characters I can identify with and fan in fiction. Proactive, I must be it.

Some thoughts and questions about rpf and it's relationship to femslash fandom [11 May 2010|02:28pm]

I've been thinking about this post for a few weeks now, and my insomnia last night gave me the perfect opportunity to write it.

It's broadly about rpf and it's relationship to rpf, and it asks some general questions about the legitimacy of rpf.

Yuri Challenge Re-Opening [28 Apr 2010|01:06am]

piraskel
~~Firstly, we apologize for any spam this may be causing, but we're trying to reach everyone we can! We've done our best to research the communities we're posting to for any advertisement permission requirements, however if we've managed to miss one in our audit, dear mods, please feel free to smite this post where it sits. ^_^~~

Hello, everyone!

I'm writing to invite everyone in this community to yuri_challenge, a yuri/femslash fanfic and fanart challenge community making its return after a long hiatus.

The bonus of participating this challenge will be that you could quite possibly end up crossposting your submission to the community you're reading in now! Spreading the love and adding to fandom at the same time is a great combo~

Stories and art are based on a prompt for each challenge, and the coming challenge's theme is "Firsts." Just think of all those wonderful "firsts" you can put your favorite characters in... "first time," "first love," "ladies first"... Lots of possibilities!

All fandoms are welcome, however the community does not permit RPF/RPS as we're about the characters, not the people playing them. Sorry!

yuri_challenge has been around for a long time, and we're looking to inject some real life back into it with as many submissions and fan-creations as we can get, so come join us!

Prompt submissions for this upcoming round start soon - May 1st - so be sure to join the comm soon, and have those pens ready!

Thanks for your time in reading. :D

On fanon vs. canon [18 Mar 2010|01:27pm]

seriousfic
Okay, oddly specific I know, but say we have an antiheroine. She’s dreamy and butch and whatnot, and the author has seen fit to give her a foil to play off of. Now, since there are tons of bromances in genre fiction and not many Bechdel Test passers, the foil is female. And, given that the antiheroine is pretty mean, the foil serves as something of a redeeming virtue for her. Sure, she might do bad things, but she genuinely cares for her best friend, which is the most important relationship in her life.

Now, as you might expect, that’s pretty slashy. Now, lesbian subtext is always fun, but this isn’t a fanfic, it’s a novel and their relationship isn’t the point of the story in the way it might be in, say, Xena. In fact, both characters are destined not to end up together, whether it be for other love interests, death, turning evil, what have you.

So, knowing the characters wouldn’t end up together, would you prefer an expressly lesbian relationship or just loads of (frustrating?) subtext?

Put another way for you LotS viewers, would you rather Kahlan and Cara had sex, knowing Kahlan was going to end up with Richard, or should Cara just be very interested in poking Kahlan with her Agiel?

Femslash fandom and Geocities [23 Sep 2009|02:08pm]

anenko
As some of you may already be aware, Geocities will be closing it's doors soon. They've already begun deleting sites (my own has already been purged, for instance).

Femslash isn't exactly overabundant to begin with, so trying to save femslash-related sites previously housed on Geocities is a project I think we should be able to get behind.

I'm in no way affiliated with the OTW, but I've been an enthusiastic participant in the Geocities Rescue Project.

* The totally fictional "LovelyGirl" is the archivist for the equally fictional "Bosom Buddies: An Anne of Green Gables Femslash Archive." She's panicking at the thought of losing the cotents of her multi-author archive. One possible solution: Getting into touch with Open Doors. (I'll be completely honest on this point: I don't know exactly *how* the Open Doors project works. Do they help move websites? Do they host the contents on the OTW's server? I don't know. But it's better than losing everything!)

* The (still fictional!) "Jane Q. Femslasher" has hundreds of fics archived on her personal archive at Geocities. She can contact Open Doors and get a beta account at the AO3 for her fics.

* "Fannish Butterfly" has drifted off from fandom; the email on her website no longer works, and no one knows how to get into contact with her. There's no way to save her work, but her contributions can still be recorded on Fanlore, with screencaps and a brief profile of her site and/or her time in fandom.

For example, see what what's been done with Rogue Sanctuary (B5, Ivanova/Talia), A Slayer, A Hacker (BtVS, Buffy/Willow), and Willow Femslash (BtVS, Willow/various).

You can see the list of links that we've collected so far on the Geocities Rescue spreadsheet (details here).

What actually gets screencapped and Fanlore'd depends on the interest of the people working on the project. If you want to see your favourite Geocities-based websites (or your own!) saved, please feel free to dive in. More volunteers are always welcome!

Quietly tragic femslash [04 Aug 2009|06:19pm]

alias_sqbr
[ mood | contemplative ]

It's hard to make generalisations about what sorts of fic are common(*). But would people agree that there is a disproportionate amount of femslash (compared to het and boyslash) about characters who have a passionate secret affair before or during their canon relationships, angst about it, and then go on living their canon lives with a sense of bittersweet sorrow, pining but trapped by conventionality? (I'm not sure if that quite captures the pattern)

The most recent example I've come across: Grounded (This Is Not My Beautiful Life Mix) by kyuuketsukirui. Harry Potter :: Ginny/Luna, Ginny/Harry. (EDIT: apparently kyuuketsukirui meant it as a happy ending! So don't let my interpretation put you off the story :))

Bu I've encountered this plot a bunch of other places, especially in Anne of Green Gables fic.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, though I'll admit I prefer happy endings myself. I just find it interesting, since I can't think of much(**) non-femslash fic I've read with that plot. Instead there's bittersweet unrequited love, or one of the character will die, or they are kept apart by personality clashes etc.
